The song was released in Europe through Paper Plane Records on December 2nd, 2016 and in the United States by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mom_%2B_Pop_Music\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mom + Pop Music<\/a>&nbsp;on 2 February 2018.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/No_Roots_(song)#cite_note-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song reached the top 10 of the music charts in Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia, and Israel, and it also reached the top 20 in Switzerland. It also peaked at number 84 on the US&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billboard_Hot_100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Billboard<\/em>&nbsp;Hot 100<\/a>. The song was certified Gold in the United States by the (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Recording_Industry_Association_of_America\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RIAA<\/a>), Platinum in Germany by the (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bundesverband_Musikindustrie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BVMI<\/a>), and in France by the (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Syndicat_National_de_l%27%C3%89dition_Phonographique\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNEP<\/a>).<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/No_Roots_(song)#cite_note-:2-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[4]<\/a><\/sup><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/No_Roots_(song)#cite_note-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;It was added to the &#8216;A&#8217; List of the digital UK station&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Radio_X_(United_Kingdom)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radio X<\/a>&nbsp;in March 2018 and was also receiving airplay on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_Radio_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Radio 1<\/a>&nbsp;and the UK&#8217;s most popular station&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_Radio_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Radio 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Writing\">Writing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After moving from Canada to Germany, Merton wrote her first song, &#8220;Little Lighthouse&#8221;, a song &#8220;about finding my way back home&#8221;, she told&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billboard_(magazine)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Billboard<\/a><\/em>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/No_Roots_(song)#cite_note-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;Moving a total of 12 times in 24 years inspired her to write the song.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/No_Roots_(song)#cite_note-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;&#8220;No Roots&#8221; came together while she was visiting her parents in England. &#8220;I got to a point where I was feeling quite lost.
