font-size: 3rem;\">Windows 10: Adding and Keeping custom columns in File Explorer<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"page\" class=\"site container-fluid\">\n<div id=\"site-content\" class=\"site-content row\">\n<div id=\"primary\" class=\"content-area col-sm-9\">\n<div id=\"single-content\" class=\"div-content\">\n<article id=\"post-341\" class=\"post-341 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-uncategorized tag-customize tag-file-explorer tag-folder-view tag-shortcuts tag-tips-and-tricks tag-win10 tag-windows tag-windows-10\">\n<header class=\"entry-header single\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/header>\n<p><!-- .entry-header --><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content single\">\n<p>Every so often I get the crazy urge to clean up my photo, music or video content and when I do I love to see specific columns in File Explorer.\u00a0 For Photos, its Date Taken and maybe even Camera Model.\u00a0 For Music, its Album Size and Protected (to sort between music I&#8217;ve purchased or not)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The problem I had was keeping those settings for those folders.\u00a0 I did some searching and found articles and notes on changing the registry etc, but finally found that you just need to make a few simple changes: Setting the Media template and saving the customizations to that media template.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First,\u00a0 Select the parent folder and set it to Music, Pictures, Documents, Video or General (whichever you want to customize)<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s stick with Music for this example:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Right click on the parent folder and select Properties -&gt;Customize.<\/p>\n<p>Select the template you want to use.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure to select &#8220;Also apply this to all subfolders&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Click OK to exit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_10-54-12.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_10-54-12.png\" alt=\" \" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next, customize the folder view with the columns that you want:<\/p>\n<p>Right client anywhere in the red box area\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_11-14-27.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_11-14-27.png\" alt=\" \" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Select More if you don\u2019t see the attribute you want to add on the quick list.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_10-53-30.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_10-53-30.png\" alt=\" \" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Example &#8211; I&#8217;ve added Protected and Size.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_10-51-48.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdnshared.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/85\/19\/2015-12-28_10-51-48.png\" alt=\" \" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For music I&#8217;ve also sorted by # so all tracks will appear in order.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once you have that setup the way you want it, go to View on the File Explorer menu and select Options -&gt;
