What a pita. \u00a0This is a great scanner (for 35mm photos even, which is why I am trying to get it going again).<\/p>\n

It’s always been hard to get it going since Windows 7 on.<\/p>\n

I haven’t tried this yet, because I have to walk downstairs and unplug the scanner (what a lazy bum)<\/p>\n

Anyway I want to squirrel this hint away so I don’t lose it.<\/p>\n

\"Perfection2450\"<\/a>It was a major ordeal figuring out how to get this scanner, purchased in 2002, working in 64 bit Windows 7. It\u2019s crazy, the thing is still available on Amazon<\/a> after 8 years. It\u2019s actually ranked #4 in Electronics > Camera & Photo > Printers & Scanners > Flatbed.<\/p>\n

Epson provides a 32-bit driver on their site<\/a> but not 64-bit.\u00a0 I\u2019ve solved this problem before but it was a massive Google hunt.\u00a0 Next time I\u2019ll have this blog post to look to! \ud83d\ude42
\nThe solution is pretty simple.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Unplug the scanner from the computer.<\/li>\n
  2. Go to the driver page for the Epson 4990<\/a>, download, unzip, and install the driver by clicking the default selection in each dialog box presented.<\/li>\n
  3. Plug the 2450 into the computer.\u00a0 Windows will not find the driver.<\/li>\n
  4. Click the Windows start button, type ‘device manager’ in the search bar, then click Device Manager.<\/li>\n
  5. Right click the EPSON Scanner device and select Update Driver Software.<\/li>\n
  6. Click ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.<\/li>\n
  7. Click ‘Let me pick from a list of devices on my computer’.<\/li>\n
  8. Select ‘Imaging Devices’ and click Next.<\/li>\n
  9. Choose Epson in the Manufacturer column and EPSON Perfection 4990 in the Model column.<\/li>\n
  10. Click Next, then Yes, let the software install, then Close.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Done!\u00a0 The scanner should now show up under Imaging Devices.<\/p>\n
